Masks
„Masks“
The photographic series „Masks“ deals in it's own artistic way with society which is characterised by masking and demasking.
The protagonists were chrildren at the age of five to eight years.
The children are wearing horror masks which work as a functional instrument and help with the artistic realisation and observed the change in their appearance.
The majority of the children showed more playful behaviour in the course of the masking. The masks worked as a protection shield for them and the children felt safe to change their behaviour.
Where initially a certain shyness was observable in their characters, the masking enabeld them to show hidden parts of themselves.
The sinister locations intensified the image of a mysterious world and drew attention on inner worlds, that deal with the human psyche, mental abysses and the hope of humanity.
Protagonists in the series can be regarded as artists in a fable which seem to be close to real life.
While we try to fulfill certain roles and create factors to strengthen our identity we risk to walk through life carrying a “mask“.
This work does not only show individual destinies in human society, but it also meant to represent various human stories and the different aspects of being masked.
